On February 16, 2016, our 8th grade AVID students went to Hawai’i Pacific University (HPU). There, they learned about how the importance of college, what to look for in a college, and how HPU stands out amongst the other schools throughout the state. They even got an exclusive campus tour where they explored the different facilities, dorms, and student areas the school has to offer.
The students started their HPU visit with an informational presentation by Matt Wong, Assistant Director of Admission of their Aloha Tower Marketplace campus. He shared the importance of college education and some key things to look for when selecting a college to attend, such as the majors, facilities, size, personal attention, price, and more. They also learned how HPU stands out amongst the other colleges on the island, such as UH Manoa, and UH West Oahu. Here’s a cool fact about HPU: They hold about 1,000 student activities/events from August to May!
Overall, the 8th graders definitely had a very informational experience at HPU. They were able to explore the many elements HPU had to offer and type lifestyle is guaranteed at their university. HPU is definitely a school to consider!
